Prayer mingled with praise 1Sam. 2:1

Prayer mingled with praise is a beautiful participation that goes beyond any other communication that we interact in.  We try to interrelate and develop a common bond on various levels with others but there is nothing that can equal this relationship we partake in by leaning on God in prayer.  We have a God who never sleeps and is always with us.  He enters into every feeling and need of our hearts and blesses relentlessly with His amazing presence.

In the prayer of Hannah in 1Samuel 2 we hear the echo of our hearts as she pours out her wonder in our incomparable God.

And Hannah prayed and said,

“My heart exults in the Lord;

my strength is exalted in the Lord.

My mouth derides my enemies,

because I rejoice in your salvation.

I enjoy Peterson’s paraphrase of this: I’m bursting with God-news!  I’m walking on air.  I’m laughing at my rivals. I’m dancing my salvation.

Paul said, “Rejoice in the Lord constantly” Phil. 4:4

The Psalmist prayed, “Will You not revive us again; that your people can rejoice in You?” Ps. 85:6

Experiencing an individual revival in our hearts where we feel God’s life in our soul and His presence in our lives is a moment-by-moment need.  God’s presence is always with us in the face of difficult circumstances.  Even though we feel weighted down with spiritual weakness because of the rigors of undesired pressures we can rest in His faithful working.  We may have to stand alone in misunderstanding from others who don’t come along side in our need. But we can rely and be confident in God’s enabling.  God’s reviving and new life in us keeps us from spiritual ruts. Hannah demonstrates in her prayer how to intertwine the appeals of her needs with praises of joy for God.

I’m reminded of the song by Casting Crowns “I’ll praise you in the storm” Though our heart is torn we’ll praise Him in the storm…our help comes from the maker of heaven and earth.  He is the one who is infinitely high and yet intimately near.

THE INEVITABILITY OF A SONG 1SAM. 2:1-11

And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoices in the LORD, my horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth is enlarged over my enemies; because I rejoice in Your salvation.

DELIGHT IN GOD’S PERFECTION v.2 There is none holy as the LORD

DELIGHT IN GOD’S SIGNIFICANCE    for there is none beside You

DELIGHT IN GOD’S SECURITY neither is there any rock like our God

DELIGHT IN GOD’S SENSIBILITY v.3 Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogance come out of your mouth: for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.

DELIGHT IN GOD’S STRENGTH v.4 The bows of the mighty men are broken, and they that stumbled are girded with strength.

DELIGHT IN GOD’S SATIRE v.5 They that were full have hired out themselves for bread; and they that were hungry ceased: so that the barren hath born seven; and she that hath many children is waxed feeble.

DELIGHT IN GOD’S SEVERITY v.6-7 The LORD kills, and makes alive: he brings down to the grave, and brings up. The LORD makes poor, and makes rich: he brings low, and lifts up.

DELIGHT IN GOD’S SUPPORT v.8-10

THE SWITCHING WITH OUR ENEMIES v.8 He raises up the poor out of the dust, and lifts up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD’S, and he hath set the world upon them.

THE SILENCE OF OUR ENEMIES v.9 He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail.

THE SUBJECTION OF OUR ENEMIES v.10 The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces;

THE SHATTERING OF OUR ENEMIES  out of heaven shall he thunder upon them: the LORD shall judge the ends of the earth; and he shall give strength unto his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed.

Psalms 71:2 FREEDOM FOR RIGHT

Psalms 71:2 FREEDOM FOR RIGHT

Bend down to me I’m shabby, I’m feeble, I feel threadbare and frail. Please hear my weak sighs. I ask for Your rescue from this prison of exposure and vulnerability. I need You to stoop over me and place Your healing touch on my hurts and wounds.

Deliver me in Your righteousness,

George Mueller used arguments in pleading his case before God. He would remind the Lord that the orphan in his care were not his orphans, they were God’s. He quarreled that God is the Father of the fatherless? It was God’s work, not Mueller’s. He contended that God was bound by His promises to care for them.  Could God suffer His glory to be diminished? Could God appear ugly and not beautiful in His handling of those He was obligated to care for?  What would people think and feel about God if He didn’t act?  Isn’t God’s responsibility to silence the sneering ridicule of doubters?  If He doesn’t intervene with help how can the scoffer and the skeptic be quashed?

Abraham prayed overwhelming appeals, plea after plea.  Shall not the judge of all the earth do right.

We can cast everything on God.  He pleads with us to entrust Him with every concern, every feeling, every distress and each ache and pain of our heart and body.  We can lament and howl out our innermost being to our God to deliver us in His righteousness.  The Judge of the earth will do right for us.  In all our afflictions He is afflicted.  All our difficulties, our disorders and our diseases touch His tender heart and He will fulfill all His promises to us.

FLIGHT FROM RUINS

HIS PATH OF ESCAPE      and cause me to escape:

HIS PERCEPTIVE EAR     incline Your ear unto me,

HIS PLANNED EVASION and save me.

WE NEED HELP IN DECLINE PSALM 71:1

PG_41E_-__Man_-_showing_progressive_aging1-1

To feel God’s hands on the steering wheel of our life is hard when it looks like we’re heading over a cliff.  But to have a consciousness of his supportive help when stuff is going haywire is an encouragement beyond words.  Confidence builders are few and far between.  The Lord wants our trust.  He asks that we draw our confidence in Him no matter what the disorder and uncertainty of our circumstances.

“Glorify you the Lord in the fires” (Isa. 24:15)

PSALM 71

THE EXPECTATION OF HELP v.1-4

DIRECT US IN TRUST v.1 In You, O LORD, do I put my trust:

Where do we run when we can’t run any longer?  Where do we run when our body is wracked with pain and physical defeat.  The only place to run is to run for our dear life to God.

“David Livingstone runs there when he can run no longer.  He was away up in the swamplands around Chitambo’s village, alone except for a few native carriers.  He had come to the end of his tether.  His feet were a mass of ulcers, his tough physique sapped to the point of utter exhaustion.  He was bleeding inside.  The last distinct entry in his diary reads tersely: “Knocked up quite!”  A drizzly rain was falling as his porters built a rough shelter into which he could creep.  Like Jesus in Gethsemane, the worn-out old missionary had three men with him. He allowed two of them, almost as worn out as himself, to seek their rest. He asked the third to watch.  But presently he, too, fell asleep.  After the night watches, dawn appeared at last over the eastern horizon.  The man left on watch awakened with a start and peered into the shanty.  There he was, the valiant old warrior of the cross— not in bed but on his knees alongside it.  Calling the other two, the man waited and then the three of them crept into the shelter.  Livingstone was dead—alone dead on his knees.

Had God let him down? No, a thousand times no! Into that lonely hut He had come, He who had promised never to leave nor forsake.  Beside that camp cot He had kneeled, beside the wasted form of His missionary friend.  Around that wasted form had gone those mighty, everlasting arms. “Now then, David,” He had whispered, “you’re coming home with Me.”  And so He had. The character and compassion of God had been tried to the uttermost and found to be true—true to the very last moment of time, to the very last breath of life”! as related by John Phillips

And where do we run?  In You Oh Lord do we put our trust!  How much trouble does it take before we recant our trust in God?  What level of discomfort and pain does it take before we renounce The Lord?  Would we every abandon Jesus because we feel He’s abandon us?  Does life need to be falling together according to our expectations and timing for us to rest in confidence in God?

DELIVER US FROM TURMOIL  let me never be put to confusion.

Aging is intensely confusing.  The word confusion can be rendered ashamed, embarrassed, and crushed.  Old age does that to us.  We can end up feeling beat up by our decline.  What we may have thought was attractive about us now is not.  Deterioration stares back at us in the mirror.  Wrinkles, sagging, things hanging limply, atrophy is seizing our being and we no longer trust our abilities.

Why would God allow this?  What kind of creative love could allow such individual devastation?

Prov. 28:26 says those who trust in themselves are fools.

Could it be that the Lord in His faithful compassion is training us to be wise and trust in Him.  It’s humiliating to live in a collapse and lurch in a slumping crumble.  These felt difficulties are tragedies used in sympathy.  When we know someone, when we’ve studied them through what they’ve said to us, then we begin to lean on them in trust.  It’s by intimacy with Jesus that we relax in His process with us.  There is no other way to reduce the damage.  We have to let Him have the wheel.

Psalms 46:5 UNIQUE SETTING, UNMATCHED SECURITY, UNPARALLELED SOLUTIONS

UNIQUE SETTING V.5         God is in the midst of her;

For I, says the Lord, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her. Zechariah 2:5.

In Real Estate the mantra, location, location, location is chanted like a divine reality.  There is the supreme location, the mediocre location and the lousy location, but is that reality?  Only if we’re forced into the sub solar confines of Ecclesiastes vanities can this tri-creedal vocalization count.

God in our midst is what counts.  His presence is our wall of fire round about and His wonderful filling is our passion of love within.  When we feel naked and unprotected to the havocs of Satan, who stomps about as a roaring lion, seeking to engulf in his devouring confusion, God is our wall of fire, which (like travellers in the desert, who encircle themselves with fire against the attacks of wild beasts by night) will keep us secure from all approaches.

In our deprived humiliating circumstances our God is a comfort within.  No matter how disadvantaged, in the complications of being underprivileged our Lord is all around, within and without, in every direction, and in every way, Jesus will be “the hiding-place from the squall, and a shield from the storm.  He is our beauty for ashes and our unimaginable joy for every sorrow.  Poverty becomes riches in the glory of His presence.

At what time I am afraid, I will trust in thee! Psalm 56:3.

UNMATCHED SECURITY      she shall not be moved:

The word “moved” means “to totter, shake, slip, or be overthrown.” The sustenance and mystical wherewithal we get from the Lord provides stability even in the face of intense obstruction and fuming obstacles.  We may be pounded with scathing individuals and challenged by awkward circumstances but God promises we can trust in His stabilizing calming.  The Spirit of God is our comforter and He will guide us in His path of relief.

UNPARALLELED SOLUTIONS God shall help her, & that right early.

Historical sources tell us that Jerusalem is one of the ten oldest cities of the world.  God has helped her and that right early.  Can the armies of the world crush her; can the oppression and despicable hatred of demonic hordes swallow her up?  He that sits in Heavens laughs, our Lord will have them in derision.  Are we, who own Almighty God as our Father, vulnerable and defenseless?  We may feel God is slow.  We may accuse Him of being hard of hearing and unresponsive to our cries but how could this be?  For all things are being worked together for good to us who love God, to us who are called according to His purpose.

He is punctual, timely and responds to every feeling and expression we commit to Him and those that we don’t give to Him still yet, He abides faithful to us.  When we were enemies, Christ has died for us and He has pulled us to Himself in the twirls and twines of His love.

John Phillips writes about, the marvelous river Psa. 46:4 flowing protected continual to the city of Jerusalem, and also the mysterious resident living within her.

“We see Him in the midst of the temple scholars as a boy of twelve; in the midst in the upper room after His resurrection; in the midst of the lampstands, walking among the churches in Revelation; in the midst of the throne; in the midst of the cherubim; in the midst of the four and twenty elders in glory. He is always “in the midst.” He says, “Where two or three are gathered together in My name there am I in the midst of them.” He is in the midst when God’s people gather together today; He was in the midst of Jerusalem when ruthless demonic forces threatened the city from without”.

If any one thirst, let them come unto Me, and drink. Any that believeth on Me, as the scripture has said, out of their [inner person] will flow rivers of living water

John 7:37-38

“No enemy can stop Him from flowing into us and through us”.

If any one hear My voice and open the door, I will come in to them, and sup with them, and they with Me.”

IN DISORDER V.6                       The heathen raged,

IN DISMAY                                     the kingdoms were moved:

UNSURPASSED SPEECH           he uttered his voice,

HEARTS ARE SHATTERED   the earth melted.

HIS AURA IS SENSED             The LORD of hosts is with us;

HIS ABILITY IS A SHELTER the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

GOD’S PEACE V.8-11

DESOLATION FOLLOWS DISREGARD V.8 Come, behold the works of

the LORD, what desolations he hath made in the earth.

HE CEASES V.9 He makes wars to cease unto the end of the earth

HE CRUSHES    He breaks the bow,

HE CUTS         and cuts the spear in sunder;

HE CREMATES  he burns the chariot in the fire.

DARKNESS FINDS DISCERNMENT V.10

HE’S OUR SIGNIFICANCE

IN HIS PROMOTION

PEOPLE                       I will be exalted among the heathen,

PLACES                       I will be exalted in the earth.

Ps. 46:3-4 TO THE IRRATIONAL & IMPOSSIBLE

TO THE IRRATIONAL          Therefore will not we fear,

“The fear of man brings a snare: but whoso puts his trust in the Lord shall be safe” Prov. 29:25

It’s not just the fear of man but the fear of anything.  Fear entraps us in a dungeon of our own composition.  The fear of losing our health, the fear of pain, the fear of death, the fear of poverty, the fear of harm to those we love, the fear of rejection and the fear of anything imaginable is a chamber of horror which culminates in constant revulsive self torture.

Therefore we will not fear.  Fear will be replaced by trust in the Lord that finds the sweet embrace of casting all our burdens and cares on Him.

TO THE IMPOSSIBLE

CONVULSIVE CATACLYSM though the earth be removed, and

though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea

We are attached to the earth.  This ground of soil, rock and amazing foliage is where we find our footing.  If everything we know and find our security in is abruptly dissolved in a tragic deluge.  If we burst out in a vacuum, adrift and alone, we will find ourselves with no point of reference.  Eternity has no structure to our sense of feeling.  We can’t touch, taste, smell, see or hear the invisible dimensions of the infinite.  It is only with the eyes of our heart that faith can exercise a grip on the reality of God.

CATASTROPHIC CALAMITY

FLOOD       Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled,

While kayaking in southern England off the Isle of Wight, Mark Ashton-Smith, a 33-year-old lecturer at Cambridge University, capsized in treacherous waters. Clinging to his craft and reaching for his cell phone, Ashton-Smith’s first inclination was to call his father. It didn’t matter to the desperate son that his dad, Alan Pimm-Smith, was at work training British troops in Dubai 3,500 miles away. Without delay, the father relayed his son’s “mayday” to the Coast Guard installation nearest to his son’s location. Ironically, it was less than a mile away. Within 12 minutes, a helicopter retrieved the grateful Ashton-Smith. Like this kayaker, when we are in peril, our first impulse should be to call our Father–the one we trust to help us. We have boldness and access to come before Him with our petitions.

Whoever Calls on the Name of the Lord Will be Saved Joel 2:32

For the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Rom. 10:12-13

QUAKE  though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof

When Jonathan Edwards, the great pastor and theologian died unexpectedly from a smallpox vaccination, his wife wrote these words, “What shall I say? A holy and good God has covered us with a dark cloud. O that we may kiss the rod, and lay our hands on our mouths! The Lord has done it, but my God lives. He has my heart. We are all given to God.” She was yielded to the Lord’s will for her life.

“When people panic, they drastically change. They will do and say things they would never do at any other time. Fear has great power in changing the personality of a person”. Mattoon Treasures

Fear is ultimately accusing God for our misery while we don’t see His creative purpose in turning all tragedy into a beautiful triumph.

Numbers 14:1-4 And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.  And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness! And wherefore hath the Lord brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return into Egypt? And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.

Chippie the parakeet never saw it coming. One second he was peacefully perched in his cage. The next he was sucked in, washed up, and blown over. The problems began when Chippie’s owner decided to clean Chippie’s cage with a vacuum cleaner. She removed the attachment from the end of the hose and stuck it in the cage. The phone rang, and she turned to pick it up. She’d barely said “Hello” when sssopp! Chippie got sucked in. The bird owner gasped, put down the phone, turned off the vacuum, and opened the bag. There was Chippie, still alive, but stunned.

Since the bird was covered with dust and soot, she grabbed him and raced to the bathroom, turned on the faucet, and held Chippie under the running water. Then, realizing that Chippie was soaked and shivering, she did what any compassionate bird owner would do… she reached for the hair dryer and blasted the pet with hot air. Poor Chippie never knew what hit him. A few days after the trauma, the reporter who had initially written about the event contacted Chippie’s owner to see how the bird was recovering. “Well,” she replied, “Chippie doesn’t sing much anymore, he just sits and stares.” It’s not hard to see why. Sucked in, washed up, and blown over… that’s enough to steal the song from the stoutest heart. We too, are like this bird. The fear created by the commotion of our lives leaves us paralyzed sometimes, robbing us of our joy.

GOD’S PRESENCE V.4-7

UNENDING STREAM V.4     There is a river, the streams whereof

shall make glad the city of God,

Faith in God makes great optimists. Over in Burma, Adoniram Judson was lying in a foul jail with 32 lbs. of chains on his ankles and his feet bound to a bamboo pole. A fellow prisoner with a sneer on his face said, “Dr. Judson, what about the prospect of the conversion of the heathen?” His instant reply was, “The prospects are just as bright as the promises of God.” Judson trusted God with his fears.

Knowing that sooner or later the Assyrian army would besiege Jerusalem, Hezekiah had taken wise and practical steps to insure that Jerusalem had an unfailing water supply, no matter how long the siege. The spring of Gihon, located below the steep eastern hill of Ophel in the deep Kidron Valley, Jerusalem’s most ancient water supply, was exposed to enemy attack. Hezekiah diverted the spring through a conduit, 1777 feet long and hewn out of a solid rock, into a reservoir inside the city’s walls. He then completely covered the ancient spring so that the enemy would not know it was there. Throughout the fearful siege there was “a river, the streams whereof made glad the city of God.” The psalmist tells us of this river, how impassive was its flow (46:4) and how impotent was its foe. John Phillips

I will extend peace to her like a river…so will I comfort you Isa. 66:12

Elisabeth Elliot suffered the loss of two husbands. The first, Jim Elliot, was killed by Auca Indians in Ecuador while trying to reach them with the gospel. The second, Addison Leitch, was slowly consumed by cancer. In relating what these experiences were like, she referred to Psalm 46, saying that in the first shock of death “everything that has seemed most dependable has given way. Mountains are falling, earth is reeling. In such a time it is a profound comfort to know that although all things seem to be shaken, one thing is not: God is not shaken.” She added that the thing that is most needful is to do what the psalmist does later, to “be still” and know that God is God. God is God whether we recognize it or not. But it comforts us and infuses strength into our faltering spirits to rest on that truth.

“The gently flowing river, fertilizing all the land over which it is distributed in channels and rivulets, is an emblem of Jehovah’s Presence, blessing and gladdening His city”. Kirkpatrick

Calvin writes that the river is a metaphor picturing the continual sufficiency of God’s grace.  As Paul wrote: when I am weak then am I strong…God’s grace is adequate, sufficient, abundant and lavishly rich.

Psalms 1 promises that when we delight in God’s Word and make it our focus and meditation that we’ll be like a tree planted by the river of living water.  Our God gives us life sustaining refreshing power in the river of His grace and love.

UNEQUALED SPACE      the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.

We have real estate in God’s matchless incomparable palace.  Jesus said in my Fathers house are many mansions.

David Jeremiah writes, SORROW needs simple words for its consolation; and simple words are the best clothing for the largest truths. These eleven poor men were crushed and desolate at the thought of Christ’s going; they fancied that if He left them they lost Him.

Jesus is not only with us always but in Him we are on the threshold of ivory palaces and streets of pure gold.  We are secure in Christ with the riches of glory.  Are time here is to point others to the Most High the creator of all.

UNIQUE SETTING V.5         God is in the midst of her;

UNMATCHED SECURITY      she shall not be moved:

UNPARALLELED SOLUTIONS God shall help her, and that right early.

A refuge is a place we can rely on, a position of security, a path of retreat where we find shelter and protection.  We would prefer not to find ourself in a position danger.  None of us want to be under threat where we’re facing the risk of loss.  We loath being penetrated by vulnerability where we’re stripped and exposed.  And where do we look when our zone of comfort is violated and we’re disrupted with multiple infringements?

God is our refuge.  As menacing as its blunt reality is it is through our distresses and painful agonies that we prove the sufficiency of God for our deliverance as we call on Him.

OUR RESOURCE       and strength,

Spurgeon wrote, “All other refuges are lies.  All other strengths are weakness”.  Our only true source is God.  He is closer then the problems.  He is nearer then the difficulty.  How adequate is God in our inadequacy?  We are defective, scanty, vulnerable and weak but God is our strength.

Luther said, “We sing this psalm to the praise of God, because God is with us and powerfully and miraculously preserves and defends us by His Word against all fanatical spirits, against the gates of hell, against the implacable hatred of the devil, and against all the assaults of the world, the flesh and sin.”

“It is God, not the government or anyone or anything else, who is our chief help in time of trouble. Many have trusted in the government to help them only to find out that in stress the government’s help is unreliable at best. Many have trusted in insurance policies, friends, and investments for help only to learn that they often fail when needed the most”. Butler in The Analytical Bible Expositor

“Whenever disaster strikes and it seems that all hope is lost.  Our only assurance is that God can handle, in His will, in His own good time and way, things which seem like total disasters to us”. John Phillips

OUR REMEDY   a very present help in trouble.

The word for “trouble” is a tight spot, an experience that presses us from every angle and chokes us in with strangling repressive crushing.  Where do we turn in our pain and emotional affixation?  We turn to our very present help, GOD.  How complex is the prayer we cry out?  Please help, God save me, I need You now, and I need You constantly.

The words “very present help” indicates intensity or extremity. In other words, God’s help is exceeding or abundant.

Eph. 3:20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to His power that works in us,

TO THE IRRATIONAL          Therefore will not we fear,

TO THE IMPOSSIBLE

CONVULSIVE CATACLYSM though the earth be removed, and

though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea

CATASTROPHIC CALAMITY

FLOOD       Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled,

QUAKE      though the mountains shake with the swelling

                               thereof. Selah.

GOD’S PRESENCE V.4-7

UNENDING STREAM V.4     There is a river, the streams whereof

IN DISORDER V.6                      The heathen raged,

IN DISMAY                                     the kingdoms were moved:

UNSURPASSED SPEECH           he uttered his voice,

HEARTS ARE SHATTERED   the earth melted.

HE CRUSHES      He breaks the bow,

HE CUTS                and cuts the spear in sunder;

HE CREMATES  he burns the chariot in the fire.

DISCERNMENT V.10

    HE’S OUR STABILITY        Be still,

HE’S OUR SECURITY         and know that I am God:

HE’S OUR SIGNIFICANCE

IN HIS PROMOTION

PEOPLE                       I will be exalted among the heathen,

PLACES                       I will be exalted in the earth.

Rough Places & Smooth Lift

I love Handel’s Messiah I’m trying to listen to it daily through the New Year.  This line has been catching my mind today.

Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill made low, the crooked straight, and the rough places plain.

We get ourselves onto paths of inner spirit valley’s where our soul aches from rough roads.  We need someone to help, someone to smooth our future, remove our obstacles and encourage and comfort our hearts.  Who else but Jesus?

By His Spirit He exalts us in our low spots, raises us, promotes our every incidental and intensifies that sense of His loving compassion over and in us.

FULL OF DOUBT

PSALMS 4 FROM WEAKNESS TO WORSHIP

OUR WEAKNESS v.1

OUR BEGGING  Hear me when I call,
Cause us to feel You on our side in every circumstance & condition
OUR BOAST        O God of my righteousness
Influence every thought that we might live in the reality of our perfect position in You
OUR BLESSING You have enlarged me when I was in distress
Reveal Your purpose in tight spots & stressful situations & settings
OUR BURDEN have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer.
Allow an experience of mercy upon mercy, pour Your infinite compassion all around our life & give us the constant sensation of Your listening ear & caring heart.

In a severe personal storm we feel alone, afraid and assaulted with doubts and fears. I can feel surrounded in the storm and high waves of doubt.

I doubt God’s sovereign working in my life for our good. I sink lower and lower into a swamp of anxiety that everything is going to detonate into a total mess.

I doubt God’s shepherding care and concern. I question that He’s paying attention. I feel uncertain that He really cares about me and my concerns. Suddenly I’m not so sure about His authenticity of involvement in anything in my life.

I feel uncertain in God’s super-abundant power and ability for every situation. I feel like He’s got better things to do then care about my insignificant issues.

I’m wobbly in what decisions to make and what direction to take. God’s ample supply for every need that I have seems to elude the grasp of my heart.
I question God’s ever present help in time of trouble and the validity of His voice in His Word and His listening ears to my pray is skeptically doubted.

But You Lord Jesus have enlarged me when I was in distress…
In these tight places You Jesus give me space and room to relax. Thank you for having mercy on me and hearing my prayer.
