GOD’S FAITHFULNESS
Maybe the best way to consider God’s faithfulness is to evaluate our unfaithfulness. There are many details that express our unfaithfulness. It could be a forgetful point, where we didn’t follow-up on something we implied in a statement. Maybe we disappoint another’s expectation in forgetting a detail or ignoring many particulars. There’s the disloyalty to a trust, or the treachery of a confidence. Possibly the worst of the rejections of unfaithfulness is the treason of betrayal.
Those that are stung by unfaithfulness can feel like they are being discarded like an old garment, something that has become useless.
Faithfulness is a foundation term implying certainty, firmness, support and security. It is rooted in the word faith, trust and confidence. It’s difficult for any of us to be a victim and isolate the unfaithful betrayal of others in our life when we think about our personal lack of faith.
Conspiracy plots began in a perfect environment and have continued based on the same intrigue. Can God be trusted? Is He faithful? Is He going to follow through on His promises? The argument of conspiracy is that you can’t trust someone who is unfaithful.
But as soon as faith is removed from the only one who is faithful you are trusting in the deceiver. The extreme end of that path is being a skeptic, a disbeliever and a doubter. That which is not of faith is sin. Rom.14:23 And without faith it is impossible to please God Heb.11:6. The foundation of sin, is doubting, and by contrast, the foundation of obedience is faith, in the only one who is faithful.
God wants us to know His faithfulness. Deut. 7:9 Know therefore that the Lord Your God, He is God, the faithful God“.
This feature is basic to God’s being. His faithfulness is not dependent on our responses. 2 Tim. 2:13 If we believe not, yet He abides faithful; He cannot deny Himself. Faithfulness is God’s clothing. It is what He surrounds Himself with. Ps. 89:8 O Lord God of hosts, who is a strong Lord like You? Or to Your faithfulness round about You?
God never forgets, never fails, never falters, and never forfeits His Word. God contrasts His faithfulness to our unfaithfulness. God is not a man, that He should lie; neither the son of man, that He should change: has He said, and will He not do it? has He spoken, and will He not make it good? Num. 23:19.
His compassions fail not, they are new every morning (every moment) great is Your faithfulness Lam. 3:22, 23.
Things appear confusing and disruptive, but God, He is faithful that promised Heb. 10:23. He has given us many exceeding great and precious promises. Satan is a specialist at harassment and he stalks us with hissing lies in quiet whispers in the mind of our doubts. We can’t stagger because of obstacles, difficulties, obstructions and hindrances. The poet confirms that behind a frowning providence He hides a smiling face. And that the clouds we so much dread are filled with mercy and will break with blessing on our head.
We may feel flabbergasted and even staggered by an unusual disappointment. We may feel we are faithful to God, and now a dark cloud of disillusionment hides Him from us. What is difficult, or even, impossible can be the food of faith. Isaiah 50:10 Says we may feel that we walk in darkness and have no light. But we need to trust in the name of the Lord, and stay upon our God.
Jesus said in John 13:7 what I do you know not now, but you will know later. Isa. 30:18 And therefore will the Lord wait that He may be gracious unto you, and therefore will He be exalted, that He may have mercy upon you: for the Lord is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for Him.
O Lord, righteousness belongs to You, but unto us confusion of faces Dan.9:7. I know, O Lord, that Your judgments are right, and that You in faithfulness hast afflicted me Ps. 119:15.
Afflictions are necessary for us: In their affliction they will seek Me early Hos. 5:15.
The foundation of God stands sure 2 Tim. 2:19. I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day 2 Tim 1:12 Faithful is He, which called you, who also will do it. 1 Thess. 5:24.
Job 5:19, “He shall deliver thee in six troubles: yes, in seven there will no evil touch you. Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator. 1Pet. 4:19. Abraham when he pleaded with God about Sodom and Lot’s family said: Will not the judge of all the earth do right? Gen. 18:25. The answer is obvious. Everything He does is perfect and right because He is Faithful. Your faithfulness is unto all generations.
