“Comfort, comfort my people, says your God” (Isaiah 40:1).

“The English word ‘comfort’ comes from two Latin words that together

mean ‘with strength.’

When Isaiah says to us, ‘Be comforted!’ it is not a word of pity but of power.

God’s comfort does not weaken us; it strengthens us.

God is not indulging us but empowering us.”

“Comfort, comfort my people, says your God”

Isaiah 40:1

A. E. Hamilton prayed

Ask God to give us skill In comforts’ art;

That we may consecrated be and set apart

Into a life of sympathy.

For heavy is the weight of ill in every heart;

And comforters are needed much of a Christlike touch.

When we see how far we have fallen & how broken our world is, it explains something.

It reveals why disappointment invades our experience.

As we see more & more of life, we are infused with disappointment.

Our discouragement is persistent & so convincing.

Suddenly hope starts to look just plain stupid.

We become disappointed in our ideals

We are disappointed in romance

We are disappointed in the things we did in our lives that we thought had meaning,

We are disappointed in the people we used to trust,

We are disappointed in ourselves for becoming disappointed.

When all we hoped for has let us down,

We need more of Jesus. We need His real salvation.

We need His comfort through His Holy Spirit.

Our real source comfort & encouragement.

We need Christ’s courage within!

Oft times the day seems long, our trials hard to bear,

We’re tempted to complain, to murmur & despair;

But Christ will soon appear to catch us all away,

All tears forever over in God’s eternal day.

It will be worth it all when we see Jesus,

Life’s trials will seem so small when we see Christ;

One gliimpse of His dear face all sorrow will erase,

So bravely run the race till we see Christ.

Satan’s shoots at us with his burning darts of flaming discouragement

We need to stay focused in prayer

We take aim & destroy Satan’s darts of blazing destruction
