As I outline 2 Samuel 15 -20 the news is blaring and Biden is bloviating
It reminds me of Thomas à Kempis words
“We Are Weary with Reading and Hearing Many Things
O God our Truth, make us one with You in eternal love.
You are all we want and desire.
Let all of us keep silent before You.
Speak to us, You, and You alone”
Jesus spoke and said:
The wind blows where it wishes, and we hear its sound,
but we don’t know where it comes from or where it goes.
So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.
The Psalmist reports:
He causes the clouds to rise from the ends of the earth.
He sends lightning with the rain and brings the wind from His storehouses.
Psa. 135:7
God fixed the weight of the wind and measured out the waters
when He set a limit for the rain and a path for the thunderbolt,
Job 28:25
lightning and hail, snow and clouds, powerful wind fulfilling His word
Psa. 148:8
For behold, He who forms the mountains, who creates the wind,
and reveals His thoughts to man,
the One who turns the dawn to darkness and strides on the heights of the earth,
the Lord, the God of Hosts, is His name.
Amos 4:13
For he commands, and raises the stormy wind, which lifts up the waves thereof.
Psa. 107:25
Fire, and hail; snow, and vapor; stormy wind fulfilling His word
It is politically stormy right now as wind is blowing everywhere
In 2 Samuel 15-20 we see
A very stormy time for David politically and paternally.
His son Absalom is working at the politics of pomp.
He got chariots and horses and fifty men to run in front of him in a pompous parade
No one had Chariots in Jerusalem. God said don’t increase your horses and chariots
David said in his poetic inspiration some trust in chariots and some in horses
but we should be trusting in the Lord.
Psa. 20:7
Samuel warned about the dangers of having a king “like all the nations,”
he emphasized such a king would have chariots and horsemen to run
before his chariots 1 Samuel 8:5, 11
Then Absalom started into THE POLITICS OF PROMISES 2 Sam 15:2-4
Absalom wanted to be great
The pursuit of greatness is inconsistent with Jesus Christ who made Himself
of no reputation.
The cult of celebrity is tricky and showing up with a gaudy chariot and designer
clothes is a contradiction to Jesus word where He says:
But you shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you,
let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that serves.
Luke 22:26
As I outlined in 2 Samuel this news channel was blaring blustery wind as background.
Biden is blurry in his Constant breezy demagoguery
It appears factious and misleading and blustery
Absalom fostered discontent to David’s kingdom to position himself
in the minds of others as the potential answer to their unhappiness.
This is the politics of promises.
Absalom positioned, early in the day, to intercept any who were
looking for their issues to be resolved.
Absalom targeted those who were bringing their cases for a decision by the king.
A “dispute” was a case by an individual who was seeking redress for some wrong
Absalom was sowing the idea that the hope for justice in the land lay in
a new source of justice, namely King Absalom rather than King David.
Saying
“I will give [them] justice” means
“I’ll declare in their favor.”
An amazing promise!
Every litigant would get
the decision they wanted.
Modern politician promise lower taxes, increase entitlements
Politics of promises pretends to be concerned for our needs and desires
They promise whatever it takes to get the individuals on board.
WHATS THE CLEAR INTENT – 2 Sam. 15:5,6
THE POLITICS OF PLEASING v. 5
5 And it was so, that when any man came near to him to do him obeisance,
he put out his hand, and took him, and kissed him.
Absalom’s politic was a strategy of charm
Absalom was behaving like the king! His kisses were insincere affection
6 And on this manner did Absalom to all Israel that came to the king
for judgment: so Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.
The remarkable thing about Absalom-style politics is that it works.
It worked for him.
Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel” (v. 6).
Absalom worked on “all of Israel” with his strategy to arouse the affection
and support of the people. He was a success in tricking the people.
It was a deception.
Politics Absalom-style can succeed, but those who fall for it are duped people.
TAKING POWER ABSALOMS WAY vv. 7–12
His campaign to “steal” the hearts went on for four years (v. 7).
He had an ability to wait for the right time to carry out his long-harbored intentions.
So where’s the wind blowing in our present political climate?
… Why the big noise, all you politicians and political junkies?
Why all the mean plots, you groveling politicians?
Political-leaders push for position,
Demagogues and delegates meet for summit talks for their new administration,
The God-deniers, the Christ-defiers:
The plan is to get free of God! Erase Jesus Christ! Silence the voices of challenge
God is breaks out in scorning laughs
He views all this political presumption as hilarious;
God can in a flash shuts everyone up and everything down
There’s a King above every king
that ever lived
He’s above every pompous politician?
His warning is Worship GOD in adoring embrace,
Celebrate in trembling awe.
Kiss Christ!
Give Him all our affections.
Stuff can explode at any moment,
The only thing we won’t
regret is voting for Jesus! …
Every prayer of Your Kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven is a vote for Christ
Psalm 2:1-12 Remixed
And don’t drive your pompous chariot under low limbs.
Your hair may get caught in the limb snag and a fiery dart can end your parade
Politics milks our mind
